Dry needling is an effective and efficient technique for the treatment of muscular pain and myofascial dysfunction. It specifically targets and restores muscle function with an emphasis on improving tissue healing, decreasing nerve sensitivity and restoration of tissue function. While acupuncture is based on defined acupoints intended to unblock energy channels and help restore balance throughout the body dry needling specifically targets areas of inflamed or restricted tissue. Dry needling targets muscle trigger points which are bands of tension that can form within a muscle as a result of stress, poor posture, repetitive actions, injury or trauma. These trigger points can refer pain and create dysfunction in other parts of the body for example headaches or toothaches. All needles used at Artarmon Physiotherapy are sterile and single use only.
